Last night the team hosted the Mississauga Tomahawks for their second meeting of the season. The Beaches previously defeated the Tomahawks 16-8 in Mississauga in late May and looked to dominate them once again. The game did not turn out the way that the boys had expected it to. The first period began with Joe French scoring 30 seconds into the period to give the Beaches a quick lead. But the Tomahawks responded strong scoring two of their own only 4 second apart to give Mississauga the lead. The boys answered with two goals as well in only 7 seconds courtesy of Ryan Fournier and Beaches new comer, Newmarket Jr. B call-up Chad Levick. After a timeout by the Tomahawks with 7 seconds left in the first period, Mississauga were able to execute a play to score with 1 second left on the clock and to go into the second period tied at 3. In the second period, the Beaches looked to take control of the game as they scored two goals, one by Jackson Hulbert and the other by Jordan Robertson. But the trend that was seen throughout the game of Mississauga catching up became evident as they struck quickly to close the gap once again to make the game 5-5. Ryan Fournier made sure that the Beaches would remain on top as he scored his second and third goals of the game to regain the two goal lead. Mississauga would add one more goal to end the second period 7-6 for the Beaches. Much like the previous two periods, the team exchanged goals as Mississauga scored followed by another goal by Jordan Robertson, followed by another Tomahawks goal. The Tomahawks seemed like they would never fall behind until later in the third where the Beaches poured on the offence scoring three goals by Allister Warren, Greg Davidson and the hat-trick goal by Jordan Robertson to give the Beaches an 11-8 lead. Mississauga would add a late goal but it would not be enough as they Beaches win their fourth game of the season. Seven Beaches players finished the game with 2 or more points including Jackson Hulbert who lead the team with 1 goal and 5 assists. The boys will be playing there next home game on Sunday, June 17 at 7pm at Ted Reeve Arena versus the Peterborough Lakers.
