After a disappointing loss to Peterborough on Friday night, the Beaches took on the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves in a Sunday matinee looking to take their first two points of the summer. Fans at Ted Reeve saw the Beaches control most of the game, beginning with a quick 2-0 lead after just 24 seconds of play.

After dominating the first two periods, the Beaches went into the third period with an 8-3 lead and opened that lead to 9-3 on a early third period goal. However the Braves began a third period comeback with 4 unanswered goals to bring them within two.

The Beach Boys would stop the onslaught with a 10th goal to make it 10-7 and that score would hold until under a minute left when the Braves would score two empty net goal to come within one with 10 seconds left in the game. The Beaches defense held the Braves off for those ten seconds earning their first win.

Beaches offensive player of the game was given to Ryan Lee, playing his 1st game of the season after returning from university. Lee was unfamiliar with the offence but with raw skill he was effective with 3 goals and 2 assists on the night.

The Beaches played a solid defensive game through most of the night, with defensive player of the game given to D-man Chris Willman who was great in the faceoff circle and tough on the back end. Big honorable mention to goalie Rance Vigneux, who had to hold the fort as the Braves came hard, heavy and often in the last half of the third period.

After an 0-8 start in 2013 before registering their first two points, the Beaches win their first game of 2014 only 4 games into the season making it the earliest victory since 2011. The Beach Boys will try to make it two in a row against the Brampton Excelsiors on Wednesday night (May 28) @ 8pm at Ted Reeve as always.
