#7 John St. John

The 2015 season began with a trip down the Gardiner to Mimico arena to take on the newest Jr. A team in Ontario, the Mountaineers. After a development camp, training camp and a pre-season tournament, the team was ready to begin the summer campaign to the Minto cup.

The team had a nervous start to the game allowing the first two goals in the first four minutes of play. However when Beaches rookie and 2015 draft pick Tristan Hanna scored his first Junior A goal at the minute mark, the Beaches took off and never looked back. The went into the first intermission with a 4-3 lead as Hanna scored his second in the period with Ryan MacSpadyen and Jack Kelly adding solo markers.

Beaches fifth year forward John St. John then took over the second period scoring four goals. Another rookie and 2015 draft pick Bryce Keats added his first career Junior A goal as well in the second to give the Beaches a 9-4 lead going into the third period.

It only got better for the Beach Boys in the third period as Hanna scored his hat-trick goal in his first Junior A game and Keats added his second. Solo goals from Cory Burr and Aaron Forster sealed the victory for the Beaches 13-6. Goalie Michael Lalani made numerous key saves throughout the game giving his team the best chance to win.

The last time the Beaches got a point in a season opener was back in 2010 in a 15-15OT tie against the now disbanded Akwesasne Indians. The team will now go on to play the Braves in Kitchener on Thursday looking to make it two in a row to start the summer.

After that game, it’s the much anticipated Home Opener in the Beach on May 22 @ 8pm. You won’t want to miss a night of fun, excitement and great lacrosse from your Toronto Beaches.
