Last night the Beach Boys welcomed the St. Catharines Athletics to Ted Reeve Arena. The team was coming off a motivating 9-9 tie against the always dangerous Whitby Warriors. After a streak of four losses, the team welcomed the well deserved point that they earned in Whitby and looked to add to their point total in their fourth home game of the season.

The first period began with a quick strike only 2 minutes into the game from rookie Jack Kelly. Athletics pushed back with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. But around the ten minute mark of the period, Beaches Jake Cook and John St. John took momentum back for the Beaches in a big way. Cook posted and hat-trick in the second half of the frame while St. John added two of his own as well as assisting on all three of Cook’s goals. The Beaches Boys went into the first intermission up 6-3.

The second period was more of the same for the Beaches outscoring St. Catharines 5-2 in the period. Jack Kelly’s second of the game was followed my a pair of goals my Ryan MacSpadyen and lone markers from Cory Burr and Garrett Lewis. The team led 11-5 at the second intermission.

The third period proved to be a challenge however as the Athletics had no intention on going down quietly. With a goal only 8 seconds into the period and 3 goals in the first three minutes, St. Catharines pulled within three early in the period. After the Beaches calmed the storm, the Athletics would close the gap even more at the 8 minute mark bringing themselves within 2 goals. But Garrett Lewis would put away his second goal of the game to give the Beaches defense some breathing room and they shut down the Athletics for the final three minutes to emerge victorious 12-9.

Beaches goalie Michael Lalani earned his third win of the season. Beaches player of the game went to Garrett Lewis with 2 goals and 2 assists with honorable mention going to John St. John with 2 goals and 6 assists. The Beach Boys are back in action of Sunday as they travel to Burlington to take on the Chiefs. The teams next home game is Friday, June 12 @ 8pm vs. Peterborough.

2) John St. John – 2 goals and 6 assists.

3) Jake Cook – 3 goals and 2 assists.
