The Beach Boys won their 3rd straight game last night as they defeated the Athletics in St. Catharines 11-7. Not only does this victory mark the teams half way point through the season, moving their record to 5-4-1, it moves the team up the league standings into 6th place. By this time last season, the team was 3-7 and with only 6 points. At the 10 game mark with 11 points this summer, the Beach Boys are only 1 point shy of equaling their total from last season.

Mimico-vs-Beaches-9-5-15-313In the first period, the Beach Boys looked like a team firing on all cylinders. Beaches point leader John St. John and Aaron Forster each scored a pair of goals along with solo markers from rookie Tristan Hanna and fellow rookie Bryce Keats who was named In Lacrosse We Trust third star of the past week in the OJALL. The team went into the first intermission leading 6-2.

The second period saw swing in momentum as the Athletics fought back scoring 4 straight goals to tie the game at 6 before Jake Cook scored to stop the bleeding. The Athletics and Beaches traded goals to end the period, with Alec Johnston scoring for Toronto. The Beaches were able to still go into the third period with am 8-7 lead.

After an intermission of readjusting his team, head coach Glenn Clark and his squad emerged for the third period trying to solidify the win and solidify they did. Led by rookie goalie Brayden Bell, the Beaches defense shutout the Athletics in the final period while the Beach Boys were able to add three more goals with Hanna and Cook scoring their second of the game and Ryan MacSpadyen scoring to secure the win.

Brayden Bell recorded his first career Junior A win while also helping out the offense adding three assists of his own. Beaches Ryan Lee made his season debut and the teams leading scorer for the past two seasons had 2 assists on the night. The Beaches will now look to build on their current streak as they host Peterborough tomorrow night at Ted Reeve arena @ 8pm.
