After a disappointing loss to Brampton on Friday night, the Beaches looked to right the ship as they hosted the Burlington Chiefs at the “Ted” for a Father’s Day matinee. The OJALL trade deadline was midnight on Saturday and the Beaches were amongst the teams looking to tweak their roster heading into the playoffs. GM Clem D’Orazio and Assistant GM James Tessier made two trades during the day. The first saw Ryan Lee and former Beaches player Ryan Fournier moved to Six Nations for Derek Thomas, a 2ndt round pick in 2016 and a 1st round pick in 2017. The Beaches also acquired d-man Matt Clearwater from Mimico, who was in the lineup against Burlington.

In the first period, Beach fans saw the home side jump to a quick 3-0 lead in the first three minutes of the period. Goals by Jack Kelly, Jordan Goddard and John St. John got the arena buzzing early. Burlington would score to make it 3-1 but Jack Kelly added his second of the game to restore the three goal lead heading into the first intermission.

The second period was a back and forth affair with the Beaches and Chiefs trading goals at two a piece. Cory Burr and Zach McCulligh each scored to give the Beach Boys a 6-3 lead heading into the final frame.

Like many games this summer, the Beaches defense were able to smother the Chiefs offense in the third period, not allowing a goal against. The Beaches would lock up the win with two more goals scored by Ryan McSpadyen and Jake Cook.

Starting goalie Michael Lalani earned his 6th win of the season and made 52 saves in the contest. Player of the game went to newly acquired defenseman Matt Clearwater who was very impressive in his Beaches debut. The Beach Boys now move onto to Peterborough to battle the Laker on Monday night. The teams next home game is Friday, June 26 @ 8pm as they welcome the Mimico Mountaineers to the “Ted” for the first time ever.
